If you’re interested in bees and beekeeping, our Open Day is a chance to find out more. Bees are very important pollinators and there’s always something new to learn about these fascinating creatures.

We’ll lend you a protective bee suit and gloves and you’ll taken around our training apiary in small groups by an experienced beekeeper.

Weather permitting, you’ll have the chance to see a hive being opened to let you observe the bees at close quarters. We’ll explain the internal workings of a hive, the difference between the three types of bees in a hive – the queen, drones and workers – and what each of them do.

We’ll describe how the bees collect and store pollen and nectar, how they make wax and honey and how they raise new bees.
